Dear colleagues,

The Research Centre on Accounting and Taxation (CICF) and the Management School (ESG) of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA) and the Portuguese Chartered Institute of Accountants (OCC),in partnership, organize the II International Congress on Public Accounting about "Reform of the Public Financial Management: challenges for research and practice". The event will be held in the city of Lisbon, in the auditorium Domingues Azevedo,  between 14 and 15 march 2019.

Public sector entities are under pressure to change their accounting systems toward the general application of the accrual basis accounting and the production of a more socially and politically accountable knowledge and output. This is highly important to make public sector accounting more relevant in the context of the reform of public financial management.

Actually we feel a favorable environment to introduce the desired changes which can become an opportunity to improve research on public sector accounting and the practice oriented to the international standards with positive gains for the engagement between the academy and the profession.

This congress will promote the open debate and the interconnection between academics and practitioners with interests on public accounting and financial management topics. So, the main actors of the reform would be involved in order to make changes happen.

During the event participants will have the opportunity to assist to the plenary sessions and parallel sessions relating to 12 different themes. The final programme would be presented more later.

We call for the participation of all that are interested on the topics of public accounting and financial management and other related topics. Working together we can contribute to a better public service provided to citizens.

Maria José Fernandes - IPCA President
